AN ANNUAL ADMINISTRATION FEE OF £75 + VAT *2022 WILL ALSO BE DEDUCTED FROM YOUR FIRST PERFORMANCE ENGAGEMENT. THIS APPLIES TO ALL ARTISTES REGISTERED IN LONDON AND THE SOUTHEAST.

As a Supporting Artiste, you are self-employed for tax and National Insurance and therefore responsible for dealing with your own NI contributions and Income Tax.

A background artist is a person or member of a group contributing to the overall authenticity and atmosphere of a scene. The individual or individuals in the group may be dressed in clothing identifiable with the role, calling or trade selected for each by the producer or advertiser, and may be directed by the director to move and/or react as required on the set. Crowd noises can include community singing of well known songs where words do not have to be learned.

Walk-on definition: An identifiable non-speaking artist, except that background speech or noise shall not be deemed to be speaking in this context, who shall be required to act individually in medium shot, or more closely, a special function peculiar only to the role, trade or calling that the character is supposed to portray and/or who, at the same time that his/her movements are recorded, is subject to individual direction and has a direct relationship with an actor (ie visual Featured Artist) who is performing his/her part as directed.

Featured definition: As per walkon but with dialogue.

BBC SUPPORTING ARTISTE/WALK-ON RATES

There are two options and a production may use both:

BBC RATE OPTION ONE
A continuous period of 9 hours to include up to 8 Hours of Work and a meal break of not less than one hour. An aggregate of up to 30 minutes of travel time may be scheduled over and above 9 hours without additional payment.

BBC RATE OPTION TWO
Provided that agreement has been reached between the BBC and the Walk-On and Supporting Artist a continuous working period of seven hours without a meal break (‘Continuous Work Day’). Such continuous periods will normally take place between 07.00 hours and 19.00 hours, or 20.00 hours and 08.00 hours.

BBC SUPPORTING ARTISTE RATES
The Supporting Artiste is not required to give individual characterisation in a role or speak dialogue other than crowd noise or reaction.

ITV REPEAT FEES

Repeat fees are based upon day of attendance fees, but adjusted if shown off-peak or on part of the network only. Walk-Ons 2 and 3 are entitled to repeats whenever the programme is re-shown on ITV or Channel 4.

Walk-Ons 1 are entitled to repeat payments when the programme is shown more than five years after the first transmission.

ITV NIGHT RATES
Payment for night work is 1.5 times the correct day rate. If recording/rehearsal is scheduled to start before 7.00am or after midnight the entire work period attracts night rate. If work extends beyond midnight (but not scheduled) night rate applies after midnight only. On calls before 7.00am to travel to work/rehearsal, night rate is paid for the hours before 7.00am only.

PHOTOGRAPHIC STANDARD DAY & OVERTIME RATES
The industry standard for a photographic job is £300 for a half day (up to 5hrs) and £500 for a full day (up to 10hrs).Overtime where applicable is charged at 20% of the daily rate per hour.

Travel rates may be negotiated depending on location.

BUY OUTS
Similar to commercials, featured Artistes will also have a buy out amount – determined by usage of medium and length of usage.

BACKGROUND
Background on Photographic jobs is normally £120 for a ten hour day Night shoots are paid at time and a half of the above rates. Any job that shoots beyond midnight is considered a nightshoot.
